Sunroom Q+A: La Vie Style House

Get to know La Vie Style House!

Founded by two former stylists, the Dallas-based line takes inspiration from the hand-sewn detail of vintage kimonos and adds modern personality and punchy color. We're wearing them dressed up with a heel or styled loose with our daily denim...discover more about the line and its founders here!

Can you share more about your design backgrounds? What led you to start the line?
Lindsey and I both came from styling backgrounds — Lindsey in Dallas and Jamie in LA. We both gravitate toward easy, chic pieces. Lindsey loved some of the vintage caftans I (Jamie) was wearing and she looked fabulous in them too...even though we are two different body types we both looked cool in the same silhouette. So, we messed around with our own design and La Vie Style House was born.

What are some of your biggest inspirations, either in travel / art / film / music?
We are inspired by everything that surrounds us! From travel to old photographs, we are both very visual people—Lindsey was an art major and I was a film major.

Since we are a one size fits all brand—we are constantly on the look out for chic pieces that look good on everyone. Our travels have definitely sparked some major design inspiration.

You cite that a shared love of vintage also inspires your process - do you have any tips for vintage shopping or favorite cities for finding gems?
We love vintage—we usually find our best pieces at swap meets/flea markets. The Long Beach Swap Meet and The Rose Bowl Flea Market are both great spots in California. We’ve gone to Flea Markets in Germany and Morocco and are constantly sourcing for new treasures.

+ Quickfire:

My design ethos in 3 words: Easy, comfortable, cool

A few of my favorite (secret) spots in Dallas are… Drakes (great pizza and steak), mot hai ba (best Vietnamese), dolly python (vintage), 4510 (shoes)

My favorite song right now: Wreckless Eric “Whole Wide World”

Five things I never travel without: La Mer lip gloss, a good biography, 'Housewives' on my iPad, comfortable shoes, and my kids

My wardrobe “workhorse” (what I wear on repeat, season after season): Adaptation jeans, Maison Margiela oversized shirt, black slim Haviana flip flops

My mantra: Pull over I’ve got to pee!

I’m currently inspired by: Space!  Full on outer space...OBSESSED!
